Sockets – the fixed socket side on the vehicle or control box housing

Sockets form the passive socket side of a connector and are stationarily mounted to the housing of a control box, body or frame component. They receive the mating plug in a positive-locking manner and thereby establish a re-detachable interface between the on-board system and an external control or lighting line. At SULEJ Ladebordwand you will find sockets for the replacement or retrofitting of worn receptacles on tail lifts, lift gates and the associated body components.

Surface-mount and flush-mount variants of the socket side

In the surface-mount variant the socket is screwed onto the outside of the housing with a flange – the receptacle visibly protrudes and the connection cable runs inside the housing. The flush-mount variant, by contrast, sits flush in a housing cut-out so only the mating opening extends beyond the surface. Both designs are fastened with a screw, rivet or clamping flange and create a permanent, vibration-resistant link to the load-bearing component – ideal for stationary connection points on control boxes and body walls.

Locking mechanisms and coding against confusion

To reliably hold the inserted plug in the socket, different locking principles are used: a bayonet lock engages after a quarter turn, while a screw lock force-fits plug and socket together through a coupling ring. In addition, a mechanical coding is often applied – through a key-and-slot geometry or an asymmetrical pin arrangement, similar receptacles cannot be mixed up. This prevents neighbouring connection points on the control box from being wrongly occupied during installation work.

Benefits at a glance

  • Passive socket side – stationarily fastened to the housing of a control box or body
  • Surface-mount or flush-mount variant depending on housing geometry and interface visibility
  • Bayonet or screw locking permanently secures the plug against vibration
  • Mechanical coding by key-and-slot or asymmetrical pin layout prevents wrong matings

A cleanly mounted socket creates a clearly defined, durable connection point on the vehicle housing and reduces sources of error during the wiring of control and lighting circuits.
