Type plates – identification data of the tail lift at a glance

Type plates are the central data source for the unambiguous identification of a tail lift, its hydraulic power pack and individual unit components. They carry the key technical figures, serial number and production batch and are therefore the starting point for any spare parts research, repair or inspection. Which unit data can be read from the plate

A type plate summarises the most important technical parameters in compact form: tail lift load capacity, operating voltage (typically in the 12 / 24 volt range of commercial vehicles), flow rate and pressure stage of the hydraulic unit, plus the consecutive serial number. In addition, build year code, manufacturer address and a CE conformity mark are often shown. Materials range from anodised aluminium and etched stainless steel through to robust laminated foils – selected according to mounting position and weather exposure of the respective spot on the vehicle.

Selection and mounting as a replacement part

When replacing a damaged type plate, the exact reproduction of the original data, the correct plate dimensions and the type of fastening (rivet, adhesive, screw) are decisive. Before removal it is worth taking photographs so all printed values can be transferred precisely. The plate should be re-fitted in its original position – on the unit side often on the pump housing, on the vehicle side on a load-bearing frame component or near the control box, well visible and protected against mechanical impact.
