Spiral cables – coiled connection between hand cable switch and vehicle

Spiral cables connect the hand cable switch flexibly with the vehicle plug connection and retract by themselves after each operating cycle. This coiled form bridges generous working radii on the tail lift without the cable dragging on the ground or getting tangled. Construction and materials – PUR jacket, conductors and connector assembly

Spiral cables consist of several stranded conductors with their own insulation, jointly enclosed by a black PUR or PVC outer jacket coiled at a defined winding radius. PUR is noticeably more abrasion-resistant and cold-resistant than PVC and is preferred in professional outdoor use. Conductor count, cross section and extension length depend on the switch function – simple up-down switches require fewer conductors than multi-function switches. Connectors at both ends are factory-assembled or available as open ends for individual connection.

Wear pattern and inspection in operation

Typical wear points are bending points directly at the connector, cracks in the PUR jacket along the extension section and chafed insulation at edges. When the coil loses its restoring force and the cable sags, material ageing has usually been reached. With dropouts at the switch it is worth first checking the connectors, then continuity measurement of the individual conductors. Spiral cables should not be pulled over sharp edges during use – an additional kink protection significantly extends service life.
