Angle Sensors

Angle sensors – position detection of the lifting arms

Angle sensors detect the rotational position of the lifting arms of a tail lift and deliver a continuous position value to the control unit over the entire travel range. This allows lifting and lowering movements to be limited precisely, switch-off points to be taught in and travel sections to be passed through at different speeds. At SULEJ Ladebordwand you will find angle sensors in different measuring ranges and shaft designs, matched to the respective installed component – for precise position detection in daily truck operation.

Hall, magnetic and potentiometric – measuring principles compared

Hall-based angle sensors evaluate the rotating field of a magnet seated on the shaft and therefore operate contactlessly and with minimal wear. Potentiometric versions scan a wiper contact on a resistance track and provide a simple analogue voltage signal. Magnetic-inductive sensors combine both principles and are used especially under high vibration loads. Mechanically, the sensors sit at the pivot point of the lifting arm, often directly on the bearing block or on the axle stub of the lifting mechanism. Different shaft and mounting designs are precisely matched to the typical mounting positions on the lifting mechanism.

What to look out for when selecting and replacing

When selecting, the measuring range, linearity, signal type and the mechanical interface to the lifting arm axis are decisive. Inaccurate coupling between shaft and sensor distorts the measured value and can lead to imprecise end positions. Check the shaft seal, the mounting flange and the connection cable for play and cracks. Comparing the sensor voltage or current levels at the defined end positions with the target values shows whether the sensor works reproducibly and whether its signal remains free of jumps.

Benefits at a glance

  • Continuous position detection over the entire lifting arm travel
  • Measuring principles and shaft designs for common lifting mechanism geometries
  • Robust housings with high protection class against spray water and vibration
  • Verified linearity for cleanly teachable end positions

A precisely chosen angle sensor creates the basis for smooth lifting and lowering behaviour and reduces hard impact on mechanical end stops.
