Design of the switching element: solenoid coil with large load contact

Mahle power relays use a two-part design with a solenoid coil and a high-current contact block, housed in a robust enclosure with bolted load terminals and blade terminals for the control wires. The coil works at 12 volt or 24 volt level and, when energised, pulls in the contact-bridge armature which closes the main contact. The large-area contact pads are designed for high-current operation with short duty cycles, as typical for the start-up of a pump motor. Functionally related to a starter solenoid, the relay cleanly separates low-power control from high-power load.

Use in the switching circuit: between control logic and pump motor

In the switching circuit the Mahle power relay sits close to the power pack between battery and motor. It is energised by the handheld cable switch or higher-level control logic, and switches the entire load path to the pump. For selection and replacement, control voltage, load-contact rating, terminal layout and housing dimensions are decisive. Signs of imminent replacement are audible clicking without switching function, a sticky armature or higher contact resistance with heat build-up.
