Push buttons – jog operation with dead man function on the tail lift

Push buttons are the central control elements for the direct triggering of individual movements on the tail lift, for example the raise and lower keys on the control panel. Unlike latching switches they close the circuit only as long as the operator actively keeps the button pressed – the classic dead man function. At SULEJ Ladebordwand you will find push buttons as replacement parts for worn jog control elements on common control boxes of tail lifts and truck lift gates – a safety-relevant building block of motion control.

Push button in jog operation: dead man function and pressure point

The functional principle of a push button is based on a mechanical stroke with a defined pressure point: only when the pressure point is overcome does the contact close, and on release the spring force opens it again. This jog characteristic supports the dead man function – the movement runs only while the button is actively pressed. Push buttons are designed as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) depending on the control task. Robust plastic housings, sealed plungers and common IP protection classes for commercial vehicle control elements protect the contact against splash water and dirt.

Selection and replacement of a matching push button

When replacing a push button the switching characteristic (NO or NC), panel bore dimension, plunger design and connection layout are decisive. The pressure point should match the previous operation so the button feedback stays familiar. Typical wear symptoms: a vanishing pressure point, a sluggish return movement or a permanently closed contact. Replacing a defective push button restores the defined jog operation and preserves the safety logic on the raise and lower keys.

Benefits at a glance

  • Jog operation with dead man function – movement only while actively pressed
  • Defined pressure point for clear feedback to the operator's hand
  • Switching variants as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) depending on control logic
  • Robust design for the typical splash water and dirt load on the control panel

A matching push button secures the jog behaviour of the raise and lower keys and keeps the operating safety of the tail lift at the familiar level.
