Oil reservoirs – hydraulic tanks for the tail lift power pack

Oil reservoirs store the hydraulic fluid the power pack needs for every lifting and lowering cycle on the tail lift. They provide volume compensation, allow suspended particles to settle and enable venting of the pressure chamber. Tank volume, material and installation position – the central selection criteria

Hydraulic tanks are available in sheet steel, aluminium and impact-resistant plastic. Steel tanks offer high mechanical stability, aluminium tanks reduce the weight on the chassis, and plastic variants are corrosion-free and easy to clean. The tank volume is dimensioned so that all hydraulic cylinders can be filled at full platform extension while a compensation buffer remains for the return flow. The installation position can be vertical, horizontal or in a cassette form between the longitudinal beams – always such that the suction line stays safely below the oil level.

Replacing and flushing the tank – how to proceed correctly

When replacing an oil reservoir, it is worth checking the condition of the sight glass seal, the filler neck with breather filter and the return line sleeves. Before filling, the tank should be flushed and the interior checked for chips, paint particles or water. Use the appropriate hydraulic oil according to the specification of the installed component and fill only up to the marking on the sight glass – an overfilled tank loses fluid through the breather when warming up.
