Proximity initiators – inductive detection on tail lift components
Proximity initiators are inductive sensors that detect metallic counterparts without contact and deliver an electrical switching signal to the lift gate control. They capture typical end positions such as the closed platform, the extended lifting arm or the correct position of locking pins – without mechanical contact and therefore with minimal wear. At SULEJ Ladebordwand you will find proximity initiators in different thread sizes and switching distances, matched to the respective installed component – for reliable position detection in daily truck operation.
Inductive operating principle and typical connection variants
The inductive initiator generates a high-frequency magnetic field in the sensor head; when a metallic damping element approaches, the resonant circuit amplitude changes and an internal amplifier switches the output. Common configurations include PNP and NPN switching logic, normally-open or normally-closed function as well as three-pole cable versions with screw connectors. The housings are produced in different thread sizes and with switching distances in the millimetre range – flush or non-flush mountable. The sensors are usually protected against reverse polarity, short circuit and electromagnetic interference, which secures their use in harsh vehicle environments.
